You won’t be able to truly appreciate the beauty of this finished project until you get to the pictures showing what we started with.
But, me being me, I’m going to start out with the pretty and then take a little walk down memory lane…

When we bought our dream house on the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) here on Oak Island, North Carolina. I knew this is what I wanted the living room to look like.
This was our third home on Oak Island.
We had started out in our first home near the seashore (read the story of our move from Ohio to North Carolina HERE): Decided we wanted to move our family to the wooded side of the island and bought a house that served us for the time: but always knew our dream was to be on the water.
After perusing real estate for a couple years, we decided we didn’t want to live oceanfront, which (here on Oak Island) narrowed our search to either a house on the Davis Canal or on the ICW.
A little gem of a home popped up for sale an entire street away from the house we were in at the time and we snatched it up!

It was a small home (which I wanted), on the water with a dock/boat lift and deep-water access. It was, however, terribly dated and the interior layout just wouldn’t do.
So, I set about redesigning everything!
Eventually, I hope to get around to showing off the changes throughout the entire house, but, for now, this is by far my favorite part of our house (which is saying a lot because I absolutely adore our master bathroom with my claw foot bathtub).
Days after closing on our new home, Tyson quickly built cabinets as necessary storage in our compact home and place holders until we were ready to move forward with our vision.

When I was feeling especially cold just over a year ago, I measured and drew up my vision to present to my incredible contractor, Peter (of St. James Remodeling).

Peter, who is more of a perfectionist than me (is that even possible?), put my vision into his design program where we made tweaks, plotted and schemed and, when all our ducks were in a row, he and his brother, Phil, made my dreams a reality!

It isn’t only an aesthetic feast for my eyes and a place where I can actually feel entirely warm, it’s proving to be a place that lures my children and pets from the places they hide to come together and that is the cherry on top!
